Frosinone climb to fifth as Como fall to first defeat

Goals from Giacomo Calò and Giorgi Kvernadze secured consecutive home league wins for the Canaries for the first time since 2023, lifting them above their visitors into fifth place.

Como started brightly and somehow failed to score during a frantic passage of play in the seventh minute, spurning three opportunities in barely ten seconds.

Palmisani first denied Anastasios Douvikas from close range before Martin Baturina’s follow-up was blocked on the line. Lucas Da Cunha then headed towards goal from inside the six-yard area, only for Palmisani to produce a superb reaction save and push the ball onto his right-hand post.

Having survived that early onslaught, Frosinone took the lead seven minutes later. Schmid cut the ball back to Calò inside the penalty area, and the midfielder’s first-time strike deflected off Luis Milla to leave Jean Butez helpless.

Como continued to threaten, with Nico Paz going close to an equaliser shortly before the interval. Instead, the hosts doubled their advantage in the third minute of first-half stoppage time.

Schmid was again the architect, releasing Kvernadze during a swift break. The forward worked his way past a defender inside the box before firing beyond Butez to give Frosinone a commanding half-time lead.

Como emerged determined to respond, but Palmisani remained an imposing obstacle. The goalkeeper kept out efforts from Paz and half-time substitute Moise Kean as the visitors pressed to get back into the contest.

Kean brought fresh energy to Como’s attack and threatened again less than ten minutes later. After escaping his marker and driving into the penalty area, the striker unleashed a powerful low effort, but Palmisani was equal to it once more.

Frosinone remained dangerous on the counter and almost put the result beyond doubt with around 25 minutes remaining, when Antonio Raimondo sent a long-range strike narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

At the other end, Jesús Rodríguez became the latest Como player to be frustrated by Palmisani. His effort from the edge of the area was met by a superb outstretched right hand as the goalkeeper continued to protect his clean sheet.

That save summed up a frustrating afternoon for the visitors, whose persistence went unrewarded against an inspired opponent.

Frosinone held firm to claim an impressive three points and trade places with Como in the table. For the visitors, a fifth defeat in their last six league meetings with the Canaries brought their unbeaten opening to the campaign to an abrupt end.
