Leeds miss chance to go third as Palace hold firm at Elland Road
Leeds United missed the opportunity to climb to third in the Premier League after being held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace at Elland Road, with both goalkeepers producing crucial saves in an entertaining stalemate.
After winning the first UEFA Europa League match week Palace played with confidence and soon set James Trafford on the attack.

The Leeds goalkeeper stopped shots from Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada near the middle of the first half while Leeds looked for a breakthrough.
Leeds also posed a danger taking three shots on target before the break. The best chance went to Nico Elvedi after a corner. Walter Benítez held the line and the score stayed even at halftime.
In the half Palace played with more purpose. James Trafford made the highlight save of the match stopping Yéremy Pino’s free‑kick from reaching the corner.
Jefferson Lerma and Daichi Kamada missed chances from range before Leeds seemed to take the lead. Tyrick Mitchell scored after meeting Anan Khalaili’s pass but the goal was cancelled for offside.
The stoppage gave Leeds a spark. Dominic Calvert‑Lewin, who had scored twice against Newcastle time almost added another goal yet Walter Benítez made a great save to deny him.
Both teams kept looking for a winner in the stages. Adam Wharton attempted another shot but missed wide and Daichi Kamada could not put a header on target from a good position.
In the end no team could finish the match. Leeds left the field with a missed chance to climb into the top three.
Palace kept their start to the season losing only five of their last 30 Premier League games. Palace also strengthened their record against Leeds having only one defeat, in six meetings with two wins and three draws.
