Brentford claim historic home win over Chelsea in west London derby
Brentford continued their best-ever start to a Premier League season with a 3-0 win over Chelsea, extending their unbeaten run to five matches and maintaining an excellent Friday-night record.
The result gave Brentford six wins from their last seven Premier League matches played on a Friday, with the other ending in a draw. It was also their first home league victory over Chelsea.

The opening half did little to suggest such a decisive scoreline was coming. The previous four meetings between these teams at this stadium had all ended level, and Brentford had drawn 10 of their previous 14 Premier League matches.
Chelsea began well enough. Pedro Neto bent an effort towards goal, but Caoimhín Kelleher made the save. After that, the game slowed as the visitors focused on tightening up a defence that had been among the league’s weakest.
Brentford, like Chelsea, had scored first in every Premier League match this season. They found some space before the break, with Yehor Yarmolyuk shooting from outside the box, although his effort went straight at Emiliano Martínez.
Morgan Rogers and Keane Lewis-Potter both had half-chances before the interval, but neither side found the attacking edge needed to break the deadlock.
Brentford returned with more purpose after the restart. Mikkel Damsgaard began to dictate play, while Jaidon Anthony headed too close to Martínez.
Anthony did not miss a second time. In the 60th minute, Damsgaard’s corner was headed back towards goal by Jannik Schuster, allowing the summer signing from Burnley to head in from close range.
Chelsea pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Brentford defended well and dealt with one attack after another. The visitors’ need for a goal then left them exposed.
With 10 minutes remaining, Kevin Schade broke clear on the counter. Martínez saved his initial shot, but Igor Thiago was there to turn in the rebound for his first goal of the season.
There was still time for a third. In the closing seconds, Schade picked out Fábio Carvalho at the far post and the midfielder had a simple finish.
The defeat is a major blow for Xabi Alonso, whose Chelsea side had averaged three goals per game in the 2026/27 season before this match. It was their first Premier League blank since April. Brentford, meanwhile, move forward with another statement result after several frustrating weeks.
