PSG edge 10-Man Marseille 2–1 in dramatic Le Classique
Paris Saint-Germain claimed their second Ligue 1 victory of the season with a hard-fought 2–1 win over Marseille in an eventful Le Classique, with Marquinhos delivering the decisive blow before the hosts were reduced to ten men.
The result lifted Luis Enrique’s side to sixth. Deepened Marseille’s early-season troubles leaving them with four defeats from their opening five league matches.
With away supporters absent PSG stepped into an atmosphere as Marseille sought a response to their heavy European defeat in midweek.

The hosts started with energy. Struggled to turn their early intent into clear chances. PSG fashioned the opening inside the first 15 minutes only for Ousmane Dembélé to lift his effort onto the roof of the net.
Marseille’s first attempt on target arrived in the minute, when Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s strike was comfortably gathered by Matvey Safonov. Neal Maupay later squandered an opportunity firing off target from a good position as the home side struggled for a cutting edge.
PSG emerged after the interval with renewed urgency. Désiré Doué, João Neves and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all tested Jeffrey de Lange during an opening five minutes before Kvaratskhelia went close again with an inventive touch from Dembélé’s cutback.
The pressure finally told in the minute. Substitute Ferran Torres met Doué’s delivery with a header to put the visitors ahead.
Marseille hit back six minutes later. Højbjerg regained possession. Found Amine Gouiri, whose pass set up Angel Gomes for a superb equaliser—his first Ligue 1 goal since November.
The celebrations barely had time to subside. Two minutes after conceding PSG restored their advantage through Marquinhos. The captain finished from Nuno Mendes’ delivery to score against Marseille for the time since February 2017 and swing the contest back, in the visitors’ favour.
Marseille’s task became even harder in the closing stages when former PSG academy player Timothy Weah received a yellow card for a foul on Mendes.
De Lange kept the hosts within distance with an excellent save to deny Mendes and Marseille almost salvaged a point in stoppage time. Nayef Aguerd rose to meet a close-range header. Could only direct it wide wasting their final chance to rescue the derby.
PSG held on to secure a victory in their last nine Ligue 1 away matches. For Marseille, a successive league defeat—their first such run since April 2015—left them in the relegation zone heading into the international break.
