Ajax sign former Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma on a free transfer
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has officially joined Dutch giants Ajax on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 30‑year‑old signed a contract in Amsterdam with an option for an extra year.
The Mali international became an agent when Tottenham finished his contract at the end of the 2025/26 season.
“Talks with Yves started in August and we are delighted that he has signed for us " said Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff. “With him we have brought in a player who knows what is needed at the highest level. He can play in positions and we hope he will be eligible to play as soon as possible."
Ajax was looking for chances in the market with Cruyff aiming to strengthen the midfield further.
The Dutch record champions had a summer transfer window signing 11 players, including midfielders Sofyan Amrabat and Julian Brandt.
Ajax currently sit fourth in the Eredivisie three points behind the leaders. Reigning champions PSV after six rounds.
During his time in north London Bissouma was frequently criticised after several off‑field incidents.
The Mali international was suspended by Tottenham in August 2024 after posting a video of himself inhaling oxide from a balloon.
He was suspended again in August 2025 for arriving to several team meetings according to then‑manager Thomas Frank.
Bissouma was later found using oxide again in December 2025. Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 after completing a €30 million move from Brighton.
He made 111 appearances, for Spurs scored two goals and won the UEFA Europa League in 2025.
