Beşiktaş overpower Marseille 4-1 in Istanbul
Beşiktaş opened their Europa League campaign with a 4-1 win over Marseille at Tüpraş Stadium, where a ruthless second-half display left the French side with a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

The match began at a fast pace, with Beşiktaş moving the ball sharply and forcing Marseille to defend deep. The home side made their early pressure count when İlhan Fakılı combined with Junior Olaitan on the edge of the penalty area.
Fakılı continued his run after releasing Olaitan, received the return pass and finished calmly from eight metres past Marseille goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange. The French-born Turkey Under-21 international had created and scored the opening goal.
Marseille arrived in Istanbul after three straight Ligue 1 losses, but they did not collapse after falling behind. Fourteen minutes later, they were level.
Beşiktaş lost the ball in midfield and Himad Abdelli quickly sent Keyliane Abdallah through behind the defence. The 20-year-old kept his composure and placed his finish beyond the goalkeeper, silencing the home crowd.
The hosts had a chance to restore their lead before the break. Dušan Vlahović’s clever play sent Orkun Kökçü through on goal, but De Lange came off his line well to deny the Beşiktaş captain.
That save only delayed the home side’s second-half charge. Marseille’s resistance broke within 13 minutes of the restart.
Václav Černý put Beşiktaş back in front with a curling shot into the far corner, leaving De Lange with no chance. Three minutes later, former Marseille defender Amir Murillo rose highest from a corner and headed in the third goal against his old club.
Marseille never looked likely to repeat their first-half response. Beşiktaş continued to push forward and Fakılı struck the crossbar with De Lange beaten.
The fourth goal arrived with nine minutes remaining. Ernest Poku ran onto a pass in space and applied a composed finish to complete a dominant night for the Turkish side.
For Marseille, the result deepens a difficult start under Bruno Génésio. The visitors showed some fight after Fakılı’s opener but could not live with Beşiktaş once the game opened up after half-time. Beşiktaş begin their Europa League run with three points and four goals, while Marseille must regroup quickly after another heavy setback.
