Sevilla win away at Deportivo to continue impressive LaLiga start
Sevilla secured their fourth victory in six LaLiga matches with a 1–0 win over 10-man Deportivo La Coruña, bringing an end to the newly promoted side’s impressive unbeaten start under Antonio Hidalgo.

Both teams started the match with energy. Sevilla created the first real chance from a corner. Deportivo’s defence stood firm and handled the danger well.
Yeremay Hernández showed intent right from the start. He linked up well with his teammates inside Sevilla’s penalty area. Still the final pass kept falling short. The home side could not find an opening and their attack lacked cutting edge.
It took over 15 minutes for the shot on target. Miguel Sierra picked up the ball outside the box and fired a strong effort toward the goal. Sevilla’s keeper, Leo Román stepped in. Gathered it easily.
Deportivo felt they deserved a penalty when Hernández took a pass and went down under pressure from Andrés López. The home fans were loud in their protests. The referee ignored their calls and waved play on.
Sevilla, known as Los Rojiblancos pressed high and fast. They caught Deportivo out while the away side was trying to build from the back. That pressure nearly paid off when Lucas Stassin won the ball and played it through to Lucien Agoumé. The French midfielder had a chance on goal but hesitated. His shot went wide of Román’s left-hand post. The score stayed level at halftime.
After the break Deportivo came out with confidence, inspired by Hidalgo’s half-time talk.. Sevilla stayed just as strong and focused.
The deadlock finally broke when Kiki Salas intercepted a pass and fed Stassin. The forward unleashed a curling shot that Román saved.. The rebound dropped perfectly for Miguel Sierra, who volleyed it into the net. Sevilla took the lead.
The situation turned worse for Deportivo four minutes later. Angeliño, the Manchester City and Roma defender was shown a straight red card. He went in late on Sierra catching him on the calf with his studs. After a VAR check the referee had no choice but to send him off.
Sevilla had a chance to seal the win on a fast counter-attack. Stassin had a path to goal. Of passing to a teammate he tried to score himself. Román made the save. Sevilla missed an easy chance.
With one player down Deportivo struggled to get into the game. They could not regain control. Never looked like finding an equaliser. Their five-match unbeaten start to the season came to an end.
The win lifts Luis García’s side into the four. It’s a contrast, to last season, when Sevilla were fighting to avoid relegation. Now they are climbing up the table. Looking strong.
