Manchester United seek new Fernandes deal before fresh transfer interest in 2027

Manchester United expect Bruno Fernandes to attract further lucrative offers in 2027, adding urgency to their efforts to agree a new contract with their captain.

Talks over improved terms have already begun, and the midfielder’s latest preference is to remain at Old Trafford. However, United recognise that his situation could become more complicated as he approaches the final stages of his current agreement.

Fernandes is contracted until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend that deal by another year. That provides some protection, but United anticipate renewed interest before his future is settled.

Galatasaray offered the Portugal international a package worth approximately €20 million per season earlier this year, while Al-Hilal made a major attempt to sign him last year. Juventus are the latest club to be linked with a move.

Fernandes chose to stay at United because he wanted to continue competing at the highest level. Nevertheless, those approaches illustrate the financial incentives that could be available when he considers the next stage of his career.

At 32, his age inevitably raises questions about how much longer United can build their team around him. His importance to the side, however, remains clear.

Since arriving from Sporting in 2020, Fernandes has become central to United’s attacking play and one of the club’s most influential figures. Securing his future would preserve an important source of creativity and leadership during a period when the team still needs greater consistency.

United’s challenge extends beyond agreeing a salary. They must also convince their captain that Old Trafford remains the best place to fulfil his sporting ambitions.

Champions League football is expected to form an important part of those discussions.

A convincing challenge near the top of the Premier League, alongside continued involvement in European competition, would strengthen the club’s case.

Conversely, an unconvincing start to the season has done little to ease the pressure surrounding negotiations.

Fernandes’ current desire to stay gives United a valuable starting point, but they know another round of approaches could offer both substantial financial rewards and a different sporting opportunity.

Reaching an agreement before those alternatives become more compelling is therefore an increasingly important task, with performances on the pitch likely to influence the strength of United’s position.
