Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has withdrawn from the England squad with a quadriceps injury, with reports suggesting he could be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

The setback comes after the 23-year-old made his competitive England debut in Saturday’s 7-0 Nations League victory over Croatia, a milestone reportedly achieved despite discomfort from an existing problem.

Journalist Ben Jacobs provided an update on Monday morning, indicating that Scott had been determined to feature but now faced a potentially lengthy absence.

“Scott will return to Bournemouth to have an injury sustained before Saturday’s 7-0 win over Croatia assessed.”

“Scott wanted to play through the pain to make his competitive England debut. He is expected to be out for up to two months.”

David Ornstein also reported that Scott had suffered a quadriceps problem, with examinations taking place to establish its severity.

The suggested recovery period would represent a significant blow for Bournemouth ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. The club are scheduled to play nine matches between October 10 and November 8, including meetings with Chelsea, Manchester United and Sparta Prague.

An absence of six to eight weeks would therefore leave Bournemouth without the midfielder during a particularly congested stretch, although the precise timetable remains dependent on the medical assessment.

For Scott, the injury also interrupts an encouraging start to his involvement with England under Thomas Tuchel.

The head coach has identified the midfielder as a potential challenger to Declan Rice if he continues to impress for the national side, making the timing of the setback especially frustrating.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and James Garner are competing to replace Scott as Tuchel considers his midfield options for England’s remaining fixture.

Ezri Konsa has also withdrawn, and no additional players have been called into the squad at this stage.

Scott now returns to Bournemouth with uncertainty over when he will be available again. Further checks should clarify whether the initial reports of an absence lasting up to two months reflect the full extent of the injury.
