Flick keeps Champions League dream in sight but stresses LaLiga focus

Barcelona travel to Levante in LaLiga on Sunday after winning all five matches in all competitions. The Spanish champions have scored 22 goals and conceded only three, producing a run that has quickly made them one of Europe’s most in-form sides.

Their attacking players have led the way.

Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have both been in excellent form, while Barcelona have scored five goals against Feyenoord in the Champions League and also hit five against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Elche in LaLiga.

The results have given the team confidence, but Flick wants his players to treat that confidence carefully.

“We all know that in football, things can change very quickly,” Flick told reporters. “I like the fact that we are enjoying the current situation.

“If we change this attitude, we will go in the wrong direction, and that is something we do not want.”

Flick’s message is simple: Barcelona cannot rely on their talent alone. The team have quality across the pitch, but the coach wants the same intensity and concentration in every match, including games where his side are expected to win comfortably.

“We are very happy to play at this level, but we know we have to show it in every game,” he said. “We know we have a very high quality, but we also have important work to do: maintain high intensity, stay focused and be active.”

Levante are next, and Flick will expect Barcelona to avoid any complacency away from home. The early numbers are impressive, but the German knows the season will be defined by how Barcelona respond when matches become more difficult.

The Champions League remains the club’s biggest target. Barcelona have not won Europe’s top prize since 2015, and last season’s run ended in disappointment when they lost to Inter Milan in the semi-finals after extra time.

Flick said the ambition is clear among supporters and inside the club.

“I have spoken with the fans and the people in Barcelona. This year, we have to win the Champions League, and of course it is our dream, it is our target,” he said.

However, he also stressed that LaLiga cannot become a secondary priority. Barcelona are chasing a third straight league title, and club president Joan Laporta has made clear that domestic success matters just as much.

“The president also says that LaLiga is very important, and if we win LaLiga three times in a row, that would be great,” Flick added.

Barcelona’s start has been close to perfect, but Flick is trying to keep the mood grounded. The goals, wins and attacking displays have set a high standard. Now his players have to meet it again against Levante.
