Bayern Munich sweep aside Bodo/Glimt to make winning Champions League start

Vincent Kompany’s side had failed to score against Schalke in their previous match, their first blank since July 2025. That brief drought never looked likely to continue for long at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern nearly scored inside five minutes. Luis Diaz met a cross with a soft header that looked certain to go in, but Nikita Khaikin somehow pushed it over the bar. Khaikin then saved Harry Kane’s curling attempt as Bayern dominated the early stages.

Bodo/Glimt eventually found a foothold in the game, although their best first-half chance came from a Bayern error. Dayot Upamecano underhit a back pass, sending the ball past Manuel Neuer and rolling narrowly wide of the goal.

Bayern quickly regained control. Michael Olise cut inside and struck a tame effort from distance at Khaikin, before Joshua Kimmich hit the post from a similar range.

Jamal Musiala then found space between Bodo/Glimt’s deep defensive lines. He turned well on the edge of the area and fired a low shot at Khaikin, who continued to keep the score level. The Russian goalkeeper also held a Kimmich volley, but he was injured during that save and had to be replaced by Julian Faye Lund before half-time.

Faye Lund’s first task after the break was to collect the ball from the net.

Only 77 seconds into the second half, Kane saw a shot blocked at the edge of the box. The rebound fell to Musiala, who drove a diagonal finish beyond the substitute goalkeeper to give Bayern the lead.

Kane should have added a second near the hour mark after Konrad Laimer’s dangerous pass found him in space. He did not have to wait long for his first European goal of the season, though. Olise delivered a free-kick and Kane powered in a header to make it 2-0.

Bodo/Glimt almost pulled one back when Andreas Helmersen stole the ball from Kimmich and spotted Neuer off his line. His 45-yard lob went over the bar.

The visitors defended bravely for much of the night, but Bayern’s pressure kept coming. Thirteen minutes from time, a cleared corner fell to Alphonso Davies, whose fierce 20-yard shot flew through a crowd and into the net.

Olise then added Bayern’s fourth with a superb left-footed effort into the top corner. Bodo/Glimt’s night worsened when Odin Bjortuft was sent off for a foul on Olise outside the box. In stoppage time, Olise broke through the loose defence again and finished for his second goal.

Bayern remain unbeaten in all competitions this season. For Bodo/Glimt, it was only the second time in 13 European matches that they failed to score at least twice.
