Juventus beat Genoa, consolidating their fifth-place position in the Serie A table.
If Luciano Spalletti told his players to "use their brains" before the match, they took him quite literally, but it was very effective.

It was only four minutes into the game before Khephren Thuram scored a spectacular goal from a free kick, with Lloyd Kelly providing the assist. Bremer then scored, despite the ball striking the opposing fullback. This was much more powerful than the shot from Justin Bijlow.
Thuram came close to scoring with a shot from 25 yards a few minutes later, but Juve's bright start was rewarded with a second goal in the 17th minute.
In a counterattack, Weston McKennie passed to Francisco Conceição, who drew the defence before returning the ball to the American player, who took a low, accurate shot on the first touch.
Genoa finally created a few dangerous attacks in the middle of the first half, but their lack of finishing power was epitomised by Kenan Yildiz's beautifully curled shot for the home team, which was easily saved by the goalkeeper.
The home team almost finished the match two minutes before half-time, when Yildiz headed the ball back towards the goal after Conceição's long pass, but somehow, McKennie managed to shoot the ball over the crossbar from two metres out.
McKennie must have wondered why his luck had deserted him at the start of the second half when Thuram received a high ball into the box and chose to pass instead of shooting, but McKennie could not reach the ball in time to block it.

A wayward clearance from Bijlow immediately created another opportunity for Juventus, when Jonathan David took a shot from the edge of the box, but his shot hit the post.
Tommaso Baldanzi then took Genoa's first shot on target, but Michele Di Gregorio — who came on for Mattia Perin in the second half — easily saved it. However, McKennie made up for it in the next attack, making a crucial save to deny Aaron Caricol a goal.
However, it was Bremer who lost his hero status in the final 20 minutes when he fouled Caricol, resulting in Genoa being awarded a penalty by VAR after the referee initially only awarded a free kick.
The player who was fouled took responsibility, but Di Gregorio guessed the right way, not only saving the penalty, but also denying Caricol's follow-up shot when the ball was cleared into the box.
The Bianconeri goalkeeper then kept a clean sheet by saving Patrizio Masini's late header, before Arkadiusz Milik shot wide from inside Genoa's half.

Juve are now unbeaten in five consecutive Serie A matches and in direct confrontations with Il Grifone, the team missed a rare opportunity to win away from home.
