Bayern Munich put in an outstanding performance away from home, beating Real Madrid 2-1.

The modern and historic atmosphere of the Bernabeu Stadium has created the perfect setting for the showdown between the two most successful teams of the current era in the league. From the first whistle, the two legendary teams displayed their superior skills, showcasing their dominance on the field from the get-go.

Bayern started strongly, but were left disappointed when Dayot Upamecano failed to convert Harry Kane's precise header from close range.

However, the home team quickly began to exploit their speed in counterattacks, with Manuel Neuer having to save Kylian Mbappé's shot after a good pass from Arda Güler.

This wouldn't be the last time that the legendary Bayern goalkeeper appeared on the list of the best plays of the half, as his next save from Mbappé's shot was only surpassed by his spectacular dive to block Vinicius Junior's powerful shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Despite those chances, it would be wrong to suggest that the away team did not deserve to score the opening goal, which stunned the home fans five minutes before half-time. They tore through Madrid's defence with a quick passing move, finishing with a perfect pass from Serge Gnabry. Luis Diaz received the ball and scored, beating Andriy Lunin.

Real Madrid had barely returned from the dressing room when Bayern made them suffer further, with Michael Olise's deft dribbling creating an opportunity for Kane to score from the edge of the box, beating Andriy Lunin, just 30 seconds after the second half began.

Lunin then prevented Olise from scoring twice more, although the home team quickly began to show signs of improvement.

They were gifted an opportunity when Upamecano's clearance went straight to Vinicius' feet, although the Brazilian player was unable to score after getting past Neuer, while Mbappé shot the ball narrowly wide.

However, the recent pressure finally paid off when there were only 15 minutes left in the game, with a low pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold to the far post finding Mbappé, who scored despite Neuer's efforts to block.

As expected, Real Madrid had more chances from then on, but they could not avoid their second defeat in nine matches against Bayern.

Two goals from Die Roten, before and after half-time, gave them the upper hand in the match and could soon make them the top contenders for the seventh Champions League title.
