Strasbourg defeated Nice, who are fighting to avoid relegation, and continued their European adventure.

Still actively seeking a second opportunity to participate in European competitions, Strasbourg's Martial Godo almost put the home team ahead in the eighth minute when he took a powerful shot from mid-range, the ball missing the crossbar by a few millimetres.

Their determined efforts to take the lead continued right after the 15th minute, when Julio Enciso narrowly missed scoring with a disappointing header.

The relentless attacking play of Gary O'Neil's team should have resulted in an opening goal by the 21st minute.

However, Godo, who is currently tasked with scoring goals for Strasbourg after the club's top Ligue 1 striker, Joaquín Panichelli, was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, failed to put the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Three minutes later, the striker suffered another setback when his header, which had beaten Yehvann Diouf, did not hit the crossbar.

However, Godo was finally able to celebrate in the 28th minute when a poor defensive effort allowed him to head the ball unmarked, sending it over Diouf.

The Cameroonian player's improved mood was clearly evident eight minutes later when Enciso scored Strasbourg's second impressive goal.

After receiving a pass from Samir El Mourabet that tore through the defence, the Paraguayan player took advantage of the opportunity, evaded the opposing defender and skilfully dribbled the ball past Diouf before putting it into the empty net.

It was a disappointing first half for the away team, which got even worse in the 42nd minute when El Mourabet scored a beautiful goal, bringing the score to 3-0.

Claude Puel took action to mitigate the damage suffered in the first half by making three substitutions.

However, despite the coach's best efforts to get Nice back in the game, the score should have been 4-0 just four minutes into the second half, but Enciso headed the ball wide of the goal in an inexplicable manner.

It was not until the 63rd minute that Mike Penders was introduced, and Nice finally had their first notable shot on goal, when Elye Wahi shot straight into the hands of the Chelsea-loaned goalkeeper.

This determined signal from the away team lit a late hope for a miraculous comeback, when Antoine Mendy's beautiful shot in the 82nd minute found the bottom corner of the net.

However, this was ultimately only a consolation when Strasbourg skilfully controlled the rest of the match to reduce the gap to three points behind AS Monaco, who are sixth.

Meanwhile, Nice remain five points clear of the play-off relegation zone and are continuing their uninspiring efforts to avoid becoming the first team in over two decades to be relegated from the top flight of French football.
