Another player has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an Achilles tendon injury: American forward Patrick Agyemang.

The 25-year-old player was injured in the first half of Derby's 2-0 win over Stoke City in the Championship (second tier) on Monday and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

"The club will provide Patrick with the best medical and rehabilitation care throughout his recovery," the club said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, due to this injury, Patrick will miss the World Cup this summer. At this stage, it is not appropriate to give a specific timeframe for his recovery.”

Agyemang has scored six goals in 14 international matches since making his debut for the US team last year. He participated in both of the team's friendlies during the March international break.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino must announce the USA's World Cup squad by 30 May. The US, co-hosts of the tournament with Canada and Mexico, will face Paraguay, Australia and Turkey in Group D.

The World Cup begins on 11 June.
