What's new in Netherlands Eredivisie 2026/27?
The 2026/27 season welcomes three promoted clubs to the Eredivisie: SC Cambuur, Excelsior Rotterdam and ADO Den Haag. Their arrival follows the relegation of three clubs from the previous campaign, bringing a fresh mix of teams into the Dutch top flight. The new season opens on August 7, 2026, with SC Cambuur hosting Excelsior Rotterdam.
The Eredivisie retains its 18-team format, with every club playing 34 league matches during the regular season. The campaign is scheduled to conclude on May 23, 2027, after which the European play-offs and promotion/relegation play-offs will determine the remaining European qualification and top-flight places.
European qualification remains an important part of the season. The Eredivisie champions qualify directly for the Champions League league phase, while the runners-up enter the Champions League qualifying rounds. The third-placed club receives a Europa League qualifying place, while the winner of the European play-offs earns a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
