The CONMEBOL Libertadores is South America's premier club football competition, bringing together the continent's leading teams to compete for the most prestigious prize in South American club football. The 2026 edition is the 67th season of the tournament, with clubs from all 10 CONMEBOL member associations competing for the title. Flamengo are the current champions, after defeating Palmeiras 1-0 in the 2025 final to claim their fourth Libertadores trophy.
What's new in CONMEBOL Libertadores 2026?
The 2026 Libertadores continues with a qualification stage before the 32-team group phase. The preliminary rounds consist of three stages, with clubs competing over two-legged ties for places in the group stage. Four teams from the third qualifying phase then join 28 directly qualified clubs to complete the 32-team field.
The group stage features eight groups of four teams, with each club playing six matches, three at home and three away. The top two teams in every group advance directly to the round of 16, while the teams finishing third move into the CONMEBOL Sudamericana round of 16 playoffs.
The knockout phase then continues through the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals, with each of those rounds played over two legs. The competition concludes with a single-match final, which will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, on November 28, 2026.
