The Chinese Super League is China's top-flight football competition, featuring 16 clubs competing for the national title, continental qualification and survival in the top division. Shanghai Port are the current Chinese Super League champions, after winning the 2025 title for the fourth time in the club's history. The 2026 campaign continues with a 16-team format, with every club competing across a full 30-match league season.

What's new in Chinese Super League 2026?

Liaoning Tieren and Chongqing Tonglianglong have joined the Chinese Super League after earning promotion from China League One. They replace Meizhou Hakka and Changchun Yatai, who were relegated at the end of the 2025 campaign.

The 2026 season began on March 6 and is scheduled to run until November 8. The competition retains its 16-team structure, with each club playing 30 matches during the regular season. This creates another long domestic campaign in which consistency is essential for teams chasing the title, continental qualification and survival.

The new season also features a strong continental presence from Chinese clubs. Shanghai Port, Chengdu Rongcheng and Shanghai Shenhua are among the Chinese representatives competing in AFC club competitions, giving the leading CSL sides additional opportunities to test themselves against teams from across Asia. The AFC has highlighted Chengdu's strong start to the 2026 campaign, while Shanghai Port enter the season as defending domestic champions.

Chinese Super League 2026 top 3 title contenders

Shanghai Port

The defending champions remain one of the leading candidates for another Chinese Super League title. Shanghai Port have won four championships, including back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, and their recent domestic consistency makes them a natural contender.

Chengdu Rongcheng

Chengdu Rongcheng have emerged as one of the strongest teams in Chinese football and made an excellent start to the 2026 campaign. Their performances near the top of the standings make them a serious challenger to the defending champions.

Shanghai Shenhua

Shanghai Shenhua remain another major force in the Chinese top flight. Their squad quality, domestic experience and participation in the AFC Champions League Elite make them one of the teams capable of challenging for the title.
