The Belgian Pro League, officially known as the Jupiler Pro League, is Belgium's top-flight football competition, featuring 18 clubs competing for the national title, European qualification and survival in the top division. Club Brugge are the current Belgian champions, after winning the 2025/26 title for the 20th time in the club's history. The 2026/27 season marks a major change for Belgian football, with the league returning to a traditional 18-team format without Championship or Europe Play-offs.

What's new in Belgian Pro League 2026/27?

The biggest change this season is the return to an 18-team league format. Each club will play 34 regular-season matches, with the team finishing first crowned Belgian champion. The top four clubs will earn European qualification, while the bottom two will be directly relegated to the Challenger Pro League.

The 2026/27 campaign also welcomes three promoted clubs: KV Kortrijk, Lommel SK and SK Beveren. Lommel return to the top flight after 23 years away, while KV Kortrijk and SK Beveren also begin the new season among Belgium's top-flight clubs.

The new season starts on August 7, 2026, with Club Brugge opening their title defence against promoted KV Kortrijk. The regular season runs through May 2027, with the final matchday scheduled for the weekend of May 21. The 2026/27 calendar also removes midweek league fixtures and includes a 14-day winter break from December 28 to January 14.

Belgian Pro League 2026/27 top 3 title contenders

Club Brugge

The defending champions enter the new season as one of the strongest teams in Belgium. Club Brugge secured their 20th league title in 2025/26 and will now look to retain the crown under the new 18-team format.

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise

Union SG finished as runners-up in the 2025/26 league campaign and also won the Croky Cup. Their strong domestic form and recent success make them one of the leading challengers to Club Brugge in the new season.

RSC Anderlecht

Anderlecht remain one of Belgium's most successful clubs and have the experience and squad quality to compete near the top of the Jupiler Pro League. Their return to the traditional league format gives them another opportunity to challenge for the title and European places.
